COMPOSITION:
Each tablet contains 
FOLIC ACID
 5 mg.
PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION:
A 8.3 Erythropoietics (haematinics).
PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION:
Folic acid is a member of the vitamin B group. It is necessary for the normal production of red blood-cells, including
maturation of megaloblasts into normoblasts.
INDICATIONS:
For the prophylaxis and treatment of nutritional megaloblastic anaemia associated with folic acid deficiency, as in the
anaemias of pregnancy, pellagra, sprue, and that following gastrectomy, and in pernicious anaemia.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS:
Folic acid should never be used in the therapy of patients with vitamin B
12
 deficiency of any cause unless there is
associated folate deficiency. Proper haematological diagnosis is essential.
DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
One to four tablets daily.
SIDE-EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS:
Folic acid is usually well tolerated in the dosage prescribed. It should not be given alone or in conjunction with
inadequate amounts of vitamin B
12
 in the treatment of pernicious anaemia. It may partially reverse the anti-epileptic
effects of phenobarbital, diphenylhydantoin, and primidone, and thereby increase seizure frequency.
IDENTIFICATION:
Flat, yellow, bisected tablet with bevelled edges.

Packs of 100 and 1000 tablets.
