NYSTACID OINTMENT SCHEDULING STATUS: S1 PROPRIETARY NAME (and dosage form): NYSTACID OINTMENT (OINTMENT) COMPOSITION: Each gram of the ointment contains 100 000 units Nystatin . PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION: A 20.1.6 Topical antibiotics. PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION: Nystatin is a fungistatic and fungicidal antibiotic but has no antibacterial properties. It is effective against a wide range of fungi and yeasts. It is not absorbed through the skin or mucous membranes when applied topically. INDICATIONS: Nystacid Ointment is used for the local treatment of moniliasis caused by Candida albicans. CONTRA-INDICATIONS: None. DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE: Apply twice daily to the affected areas or as directed by the physician. Treatment should be continued until healing is complete. SIDE-EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS: There are usually no side-effects when used as directed. KNOWN SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSAGE AND PARTICULARS OF ITS TREATMENT: None.
