COMPOSITION:
Each tablet contains 100 mg

PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION:
A 8 Drugs acting on blood and haemopoietic system.
PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION:
Dipyridamole is readily absorbed from the gastro-intestinal tract. In single doses of 100 mg it reduces platelet
adhesiveness and aggregation. Platelets play a very important part in the formation of white thrombi, thromboses in
arteries and initiation of the mechanisms of thrombosis. It reduces permeability of red cell membrane to adenosine.
Intracellular interaction between adenosine and ATP is inhibited, thus less ADP is formed. As a result of this mechanism
the ADP induced aggregation and adhesiveness is greatly reduced.
INDICATIONS:
All conditions where reduction in platelet aggregation and/or adhesiveness is considered to be of therapeutic benefit.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS:
Hypersensitivity.
Patients with hypotension following myocardial infarction.
DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
One tablet (100 mg) four times a day before food, (usually one tablet three times a day and one at bedtime).
Aspirin potentiates the effect of dipyridamole and a reduction in dosage may be necessary. Dipyridamole can be
combined with aspirin (1000 mg per day) in divided doses.
SIDE-EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS:
Instances of headache, vertigo, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and flushing have been reported. Where possible, dosage
should commence with one tablet in the morning and evening for 5 days, one three times a day for 5 days and then one
four times a day. Dipyridamole should be given with care to patients with hypotension.
