PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Mecotil 200 Sol is a brownish colour liquid,
which
contains 20%
tilmicosin, in 1 L
bottle.
PHARMACODYNAMICS
&
PHARMACOKINETICS
Like
other
macrolides,
tilmicosin
has
activity primarily against gram-positive
bacteria, although some gram-negative
bacteria
are
affected
and
the
drug
reportedly
has
some
activity
against
mycoplasma. Preliminary studies have
shown that 95% of studied isolates of
Pasteurella haemolytica are sensitive.
When administered orally to chickens,
turkeys and pigs with drinking water,
tilmicosin is absorbed and moves rapidly
out of the serum into areas of low pH. This
results in very low serum concentrations,
but detectable levels of tilmicosin are
found in lung tissue as early as 6 hours
after starting the treatment. In chicken or
turkeys, tilmicosin is also detected in
pooled air sac tissue as early as 6 hours
after starting the treatment. It is also
known that tilmicosin is concentrated in
alveolar macrophages of swine.
INDICATION
_Chickens/Turkey:_
For the treatment and prevention of
respiratory
disease
in
chicken/turkey
flocks,
associated
with
Mycoplasma
gallisepticum and M. synoviae.
_Pigs:_
For
the
treatment
and
control
of
respiratory
infections
in
pig
herds,
associated
with
Mycoplasma
hyopneumoniae,
Pasteurella
Multocida,
Actinobacillus
Pleuropneumoniae
and
other organisms sensitive to Tilmicosin.
RECOMMENDED
DOSAGE AND
ADMINISTRATION
It is to be given orally. The recommended
dosage for poultry is as following:
_Chickens _

To be included in the drinking water at a
daily dose of 15-20mg/kg bodyweight in
chickens and 10-27mg/kg bodyweight in
turkeys for 3 days, which may be achieved
by the inclusion of 75mg
