Date of Revision WHAT AMILLIN CAPSULES IS USED FOR Amillin Capsules as treatment of wide range of bacterial infections caused by ampicillin sensitive organism including ear, nose and throat infections, bronchitis and pneumonia (lung infections), urinary tract infections, gonnorhoea (sexually transmitted infections) and gynaecological infections, septicaemia (blood poisoning) and peritonitis (inflammation of peritoneum), endocarditis (heart infections), meningitis (inflammation on brain), enteric fever and gastrointestinal infections. HOW AMILLIN CAPSULES WORKS Amillin Capsules contains ampicillin which is one of a group of antibiotics called penicillins. These antibiotics acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis and subsequently killing the bacteria. BEFORE YOU USE AMILLIN CAPSULES _-When you must not use it _ Do not take Amillin Capsules if you are/ have • allergic to ampicillin or beta-lactam penicillins; • infectious mononucleosis and/or acute or chronic lymphatic leukemia since they are especially susceptible to ampicillin-induced skin rashes; • experienced acute interstitial nephritis (kidney disorder); If you are not sure whether you should start taking this medicine, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. _-Before you start to use it _ Your doctor needs to know before you take Amillin Capsules if you have or have had any of the following medical conditions: • History of gastrointestinal disease such as ulcerative colitis; • Impaired kidney function; • Interstitial nephritis; • Allergic diathesis; • Asthma. Size:104x152mm IDAMAN PHARMA MANUFACTURING AMILLIN CAPSULES 250 MG COMPOSITION: Ampicillin Trihydrate equivalent to 250 mg of Ampicillin DESCRIPTION PHARMACODYNAMICS Bactericidal for Gram-positive organisms, acts by inhibiting transpeptidase, the enzyme responsible for cross-linking of peptidoglycan during the final stage of synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, thus exerts its effect against actively dividing bacteria. Bacteriostatic for Gram-negative organisms; action resembles those of chloramphenicol and tetracyclines, i.e. by inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis. Ampicillin resembles benzylpenicillin in its action against Gram-positive organisms, including _Streptococcus pneumoniae_ and other streptococci, but with the possible exception of activity against _ Enterococcus faecalis_, it is slightly less potent than benzylpenicillin. _Listeria monocytogenes_ is highly sensitive. The Gram-negative cocci _Moraxella catarrhalis (Branhamella _ _catarrhalis)_, _Neisseria gonorrhoeae_ and _Neisseria meningitidis_ are sensitive. Ampicillin is more active than benzylpenicillin against some Gram-negative bacilli, including _ Haemophilus influenzae_ and Enterobacteriaceae such as _Escherichia coli_, _Proteus mirabilis,_ _Salmonella_ and _Shigella_ spp. It is inactive against _Pseudomonas _ _aeruginosa._ Ampicillin also has activity similar to benzylpenicillin against other organisms including many anaerobes and _Actinomyces_ spp. There is synergy against some beta-lactamase-producing organisms between ampicillin and beta-lactamase inhibitors and also penicillinase-stable drug. Synergy has also been shown between ampicillin and aminoglycosides against a range of organisms, including enterococci. Variable effects ranging from synergy antagonism have been reported between ampicillin and other beta lactams, bacteriostatic drugs such as chloramphenicol and rifampicin. Like benzylpenicillin, ampicillin is inactivated by beta lactamases, although other mechanisms may be responsible for resistance in some species. There Llegiu el document complet
