ANBESOL* SCHEDULING STATUS: S1 PROPRIETARY NAME (and dosage form) : ANBESOL* COMPOSITION: Each 100 mg contains: Lignocaine Hydrochloride 0,90 mg Chlorocresol 0,10 mg Cetylpyridinium Chloride 0,02 mg Alcohol 95% 68,24% m/m PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION: A 13.4.2 Dermatological Preparations (Other) PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION: Lignocaine Hydrochloride has a local anaesthetic action when applied to skin or the mucous membrane. ANBESOL* has local anaesthetic and antiseptic properties. INDICATIONS: ANBESOL* is useful as a local anaesthetic and antiseptic. ANBESOL* may be used to help alleviate pain and discomfort caused by minor irritations from cold sores, fever blisters, denture irritation/sore gums. CONTRA-INDICATIONS: Hypersensitivity. Not for prolonged use. If pain, redness, rash, irritation or swelling persists, or if infection occurs, discontinue use and consult a doctor or dentist. DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE Apply ANBESOL* undiluted to the affected area with finger-tip or a swab of cotton wool. ANBESOL* may be applied every 30 minutes, but should not be used for longer than two consecutive days. SIDE-EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS: A transient, stinging sensation on application. Local usage is more likely to cause allergic reactions. Do not exceed the recommended dose. Patients with liver disease should only apply ANBESOL* at hourly intervals. KNOWN SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSAGE AND PARTICULARS OF ITS TREATMENT: Antihistaminics, corticosteroids or adrenalin may be used for the treatment of: hypersensitivity allergic reactions; respiratory failure and convulsions. Treatment of overdosage is symptomatic. IDENTIFICATION: ANBESOL* is a clear, colourless liquid with a fresh antiseptic odour. PRESENTATION: 15 mL amber glass bottle.
