WHAT AMOXYCILLIN
RANBAXY IS USED FOR
Amoxycillin is an antibiotic used to
treat infections in different parts of
the body caused by bacteria. These
may be infections of the chest
(pneumonia), tonsils (tonsillitis),
sinuses (sinusitis), urinary and
genital tract, skin and fleshy
tissues.
Amoxycillin will not work against
infections caused by viruses such
as colds or the flu.
Amoxycillin is an antibiotic that
belongs to a group of medicines
called penicillins. These antibiotics
work by killing the bacteria that are
causing your infection.
Your doctor may have prescribed
AMOXYCILLIN RANBAXY for another
reason.

DESCRIPTION
Amoxycillin trihydrate is a white or almost white, crystalline powder,
slightly soluble in water and in
alcohol.
Amoxycillin trihydrate is a semisynthetic antibiotic and is a member
of the penicillinase-stable group of
penicillins derived from the penicillin nucleus, 6-aminopenicillanic
acid, isolated at Beecham Research
Laboratories.
Amoxycillin Ranbaxy 250 mg and 500 mg capsules contain amoxycillin 250
mg and 500 mg as
amoxycillin trihydrate. The capsules also contain the following
inactive ingredients: magnesium
stearate,
microcrystalline
cellulose,
sodium
lauryl
sulfate,
colloidal
anhydrous
silica
and
croscarmellose sodium. The capsule shells are made of gelatin,
titanium dioxide, sodium lauryl
sulfate, iron oxide yellow and TekPrint SW-9008 Black Ink (proprietary
ingredient # 2328). In addition,
the 500 mg capsule shells contain iron oxide red and iron oxide black.
PHARMACOLOGY
MICROBIOLOGY
Amoxycillin is similar to ampicillin in its bactericidal action
against Gram-positive and Gram-negative
susceptible organisms during the stage of active multiplication. It
acts through the inhibition of
biosynthesis of the cell wall mucopeptide.
It is active _in vitro_ most strains of _Haemophilus influenzae*,
Neisseria gonorrhoeae*, N. meningitides*, _
_Escherichia coli*, Proteus mirabilis* _and Salmonellae. All strains
of Pseudomonas species, Klebsiella
species, Enterobacter species, indole positive Proteus species, _
Serratia marcescens,_ Citrobacter
species, penicillinase-producing _ N. gonorrhoeae_ and
penicillinase-producing _ H. influenzae_ are also
