PHARMACOLOGY :
Vitamin B1 is one of the so called neurotropic vitamins.
In the body, it will be converted to thiamine pyrophosphate, which
functions as a coenzyme in
the carboxylation of piruvic acid and ketoglutaric acid. Vitamin B6
functions as an important
coenzyme in the metabolism of various amino acids, carbohydrates and
lipids.
Vitamin B12 is converted to coenzyme B12, which takes part in the
formation of proteins and
nucleoprotein.
Myelin sheath of nerve fiber is synthesized from lipoprotein.
Formation of lipid component of
the myelin sheath requires the conversion of methyl malonate to
succinate, this reaction needs
coenzyme B12. The three vitamins (B1, B6 and B12) constitute the
neurotropic vitamins,
which possess the efficacy to normalize disturbed function of the
nervous tissue.
INDICATIONS :
DANEURON promotes effectively the treatment of pain due to disturbance
of the peripheral
nerves such as lumbago, neuritis, polyneuritis, post-herpetic
neuralgia. It is also effective in
the treatment of hyperemesis gravidarum and during the convalescent
period of disease.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION :
One film coated tablet daily, it can be increased up to 3 film coated
tablets daily as required.
CONTRAINDICATIONS :
Non reported so far.
SIDE EFFECTS :
In very rare cases, an allergy on account of vitamin B1 is possible
with injectable solution.
Long-term administration of large doses of vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is
associated with the
development
of
severe
peripheral
neuropathies.
Therefore,
regular
monitoring
is
recommended under long-term treatment.
