Possible side effects 5 Storing NOPRILAM NOPRILAM, 500/125 mg coated tablets NOPRILAM contains two active substances: a penicillin designated by amoxicillin (500 mg) and a beta-lactamase inhibitor, clavulanic acid (125 mg), per tablet. The other components are: Silica colloidal anhydrous, sodium starch glycolate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose, macrogol 4000, macrogol 6000, titanium dioxide (E-171), dimeticone . WHAT NOPRILAM IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR NOPRILAM is an antibiotic belonging to the association of penicillins with beta-lactamase inhibitors. NOPRILAM is used for the treatment of a wide range of infections caused by susceptible organisms which may affect the upper respiratory tract (tonsillitis, sinusitis and otitis), the lower respiratory tract (chronic bronchitis, bronchopneumonia and pneumonia), the genito-urinary tract (cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis, and gynaecological infections), the skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections (osteomyelitis), and other infections including septic abortion, puerperal sepsis and intra-abdominal sepsis. QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE COMPOSITION Noprilam contains amoxicillin (as trihydrate) and clavulanic acid (as potassium salt) and is available in the following strengths and pharmaceutical forms: Pharmaceutical form Strength Ratio Amoxicillin content (mg) Clavulanic acid content (mg) Film-coated tablets 500mg/125mg 4:1 500 125 For a full list of excipients, see section 6.1. 3. PHARMACEUTICAL FORM 500 mg/125 mg film-coated tablets Film-coated tablet. 4. CLINICAL PARTICULARS 4.1 THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS Noprilam is indicated for the treatment of the following infections in adults and children (see sections 4.2, 4.4 and 5.1): • Acute bacterial sinusitis (adequately diagnosed) • Acute otitis media • Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis (adequately diagnosed) • Community acquired pneumonia • Cystitis • Pyelonephritis • Skin and soft tissue infections in particular cellulitis, animal bites, severe dental abscess with spreading cellulitis. • Bone and joint infections, in particular osteomyelitis. Consideration should be given to official guidance on the appropriate use of antibacterial agents. 4.2 POSOLOGY AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION Doses are expressed throughout in terms of amoxicillin/clavulanic acid content except when doses are stated in terms of an individual component.
