WHAT _PREDNISOLONE_ IS USED FOR
Conditions requiring steroids e.g.
allergic disorders such as asthma and
allergic skin reactions; blood disorders,
collagen and rheumatic disorders;
connective tissue disorders and
gastrointestinal disorders such as
inflammatory bowel disease.
HOW _PREDNISOLONE_ WORKS
_Prednisolone_
belongs to a group of
medicines called steroids, which occur
naturally in the body, and help to
maintain health and well-being. It is an
effective medicine to treat various
illnesses involving inflammation in the
body, by reducing this inflammation.
BEFORE YOU USE _PREDNISOLONE _
_When you must not use it _
Ulcer, bone diseases, psychoses,
infections including herpes zoster and
herpes simplex ulceration of the eye,
and vaccination with live vaccine.
_Before you start to use it _
Tell your doctor before you start:
- if you have heart failure, diabetes,
renal or hepatic function impairment,
hypertension, digestive disorder in the
large intestines, autoimmune
muscle disease, underactive thyroid
gland which can cause tiredness or
weight gain, infectious diseases,
tuberculosis and in advanced age.
- Prolonged treatment should be
closely observed.
-Treatment should not be discontinued
without the advice of the doctor.
-Safety for use in pregnancy and
lactation has not been established.

_Taking other medicines_
Co-administration of barbiturates,
phenytoin or rifampicin may reduce
the effects of steroids. Response to
anticoagulants and salicylates may be
reduced. Concurrent use of potassium-
depleting diuretics may cause excessive
potassium loss.
