Spiramycin is effective against aerobic and anaerobic Gram-positive bacteria such as _Staphylococcus_ spp., _Streptococcus_ spp., _Clostridium_ spp. and also inhibits _Corynebacterium_ spp., _Rickettsia_ spp., and _Mycoplasma_ spp. Spiramycin concentrates in tissues (bone, including alveolar bone, lung, spleen) and secretions (especially saliva). Metronidazole inhibits many protozoa and Gram-positive and Gram-negative anaerobic bacteria. Spiramycin and metronidazole possess synergistic properties. Because of its spectrum of activity and propensity for concentration in oral tissues, STOMORGYL is particularly active against infections causing oral or dental disease in dogs and cats.
