ACTION
Oxytetracycline is an antibiotic of the tetracycline family.
Tetracyclines are bacteriostatic antibiotics
which inhibit protein synthesis in susceptible bacteria by interfering
with the function of the 30s
component of the ribosome. In addition, they cause chelation of the
divalent cations of calcium,
magnesium and iron necessary for bacterial metabolism. They have a
broad spectrum of activity against
a large number of gram positive and gram-negative bacteria, some
Mycoplasma species, rickettsiae and
chlamydiae. The formulation of Tenaline 20 % LA provides for a slower
release of the active component
from the depot site, giving extended activity.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Treated animals must be clearly identified in such a way that they
will maintain their treatment identity
during the withholding period.
Shake well before use.
