UK SPC APPROVED 13/6/2003 SUMMARY OF PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS 1. NAME OF VETERINARY MEDICINAL PRODUCT Coopers Head to Tail Veterinary Flea Powder 2. COMPOSITION Active Constituent: %w/w Permethrin (cis:trans 25:75) (95% w/w) 1.05 3. PHARMACEUTICAL FORM Cutaneous Powder. 4.0 PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES Permethrin, like other synthetic pyrethroids, is a neuropoison acting on the axons in the peripheral and central nervous system by interacting with sodium channels. Permethrin is readily metabolised by man and animals, and is more potently toxic to ectoparasitic arthropods such as flies, lice, fleas, ticks and mites because of the much slower rate of metabolism and elimination of the chemical by the ectoparasites. 5. CLINICAL PARTICULARS 5.1 TARGET SPECIES Dogs and cats. 5.2 INDICATIONS FOR USE For the control of fleas on dogs and cats. 5.3 CONTRA-INDICATIONS Do not use on puppies under 12 weeks of age or kittens under 2 weeks of age. Do not use on nursing bitches or queens. 5.4 UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS None described. 5.5 SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS FOR USE For external use only. 5.6 USE DURING PREGNANCY AND LACTATION Page 1 UK SPC APPROVED 13/6/2003 Teratology studies in laboratory animals indicate that permethrin should pose no teratogenic risk in pregnant bitches or queens. 5.7 INTERACTION WITH OTHER MEDICAMENTS AND OTHER FORMS OF INTERACTION None described. 5.8 POSOLOGY AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION Shake gently before use. Dust evenly over the whole body whilst stroking or brushing against the lie of the hair to ensure powder penetrates to the skin. Avoid getting powder into animals eyes, nose or mouth.
