Keep this leaflet. You may need to read it again. If you have
questions not answered by this
pamphlet, please ask your doctor or pharmacist. This medicine has been
prescribed to you
personally and you should not pass it on to others. It may harm them,
even if their symptoms
are the same as yours.
Duphalac is a clear, viscous liquid, colourless to brownish yellow
aqueous solution for oral
administration containing 667 g lactulose per 1000 ml.
Duphalac oral solution does not contain any excipients, but may
contain small amounts of
related sugars (e.g. lactose, galactose, epilactose) from the route of
synthesis.
Duphalac syrup contains residues from the route of production with
known effect, see section
“Warnings and special precautions for use”.
THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS

Constipation, to regulate the physiological rhythm of the colon, when
the aim is to achieve
a
soft stool (e.g. in the case of haemorrhoids, post colonic/anal
surgery).

Portal systemic encephalopathy (PSE): for the treatment and prevention
of hepatic coma
or
precoma.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Always take Duphalac oral solution exactly as your doctor has told
you. If you have any
questions, you should check with your doctor or pharmacist
The lactulose solution may be given diluted or undiluted. A dose of
lactulose should be swallowed
in
one go and should not be held for a while in the mouth.
All doses should be adjusted to the individual need of the patient.
In the case of a single daily dose, the dose should always be taken at
the same time, for example
at
breakfast.
During treatment with laxatives it is advisable to drink sufficient
quantities of fluids during the day
(1.5 to 2
litres, equivalent to 6-8 glasses).
For Duphalac oral solution in bottles the measuring cup can be used.
For Duphalac oral solution in 15 ml single dose sachets, tear off the
corner of the sachet and
consume the
contents immediately.
