WHAT ALLAVIN EXPECTORANT IS USED FOR
Allavin Expectorant is used to relieve
cough
and
complications
associated
with
hypersensitivity
and
allergic
manifestation of respiratory (breathing)
tract illness such as common cold, flu,
bronchitis
(an
inflammation
of
the
airways that carry air to your lungs).
HOW ALLAVIN EXPECTORANT WORKS
Diphenhydramine hydrochloride works
by blocking a certain natural substance
(histamine)
that
your
body
makes
during an allergic reaction. Its drying
effects
on
symptoms
such
as
watery
eyes
and
runny
nose
are
caused
by
blocking
another
natural
substance
made by your body (acetylcholine).
Ammonium chloride is an expectorant
which acts by irritative action on the
airway
lining.
This
increases
the
volume of secretions in the respiratory
tract, reduce thickness of phlegm which
presumably is easier to cough up.
BEFORE YOU USE ALLAVIN EXPECTORANT
-
_When you must not use it_
Do not take Allavin Expectorant if you:
•
are
allergic
to
any
medicine
containing
diphenhydramine
or
ammonium
chloride
or
other
ingredients of this product.
•
have
porphyria
(a
disorder
that
caused by abnormalities in heme
production
which
mainly
affect
nervous system and skin)
•
have
fits,
enlarged
prostate,
difficulty in urination, glaucoma
(increased pressure inside the eyes)
and liver disease
•
are
taking
or
have
taken
monoamine
oxidase
inhibitors,
medicines used to treat depression.
•
pregnant or breastfeeding.
For infants and children below 4 years
old, please use as directed by doctor.
Do
not
take
this
medicine
after
the
expiry

ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION: Oral
It may cause drowsiness and dulling of
mental alertness. Patients undergoing
treatment should not take charge of
vehicles,
other
means
of
transport,
machinery where loss of attention may
lead to accident. Patients should
abstain from alcohol.
_PREGNANCY:_
Adequate and well-controlled studies in
humans have not been done.
WARNING
When used for treatment of cough and
cold:
• Not to be used in children less than 2
years of age
•
To
be
used
with
caution
and
doctor’s/pharmacist’s advice in children
2 to 6 years of age.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Porphyria patients, hypersensitivity to
any
active
ingredients
and
patients
taking concomitant MAOI’s. should be
used with care in conditions such as
epilepsy, prostatic hypertrophy, urinary
retention,
glaucoma
and
hepatic
disease.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Adult and children above 12 years old -
10ml three or four times daily.
Children 4-12 years old - 2.5 ml to 5 ml
three or four times daily.
Infants and children below 4 years old -
As directed by physician.
SYMPTOMS
AND TREATMENT
OF
OVERDOSE
Overdosage
is
associated
with
antimuscarinic,
extrapyramidal,
gastro-intestinal and CNS effects. In
infants
and
children
CNS
stimulation
predominates
over
CNS
depression,
causing
ataxia,
excitement,
tremors,
psychoses,
hallucinations,
and
convulsions;
hyperpyrexia
may
also
occur.
