WHAT
AXCEL
CEPHALEXIN-125
SUSPENSION IS USED FOR
Axcel Cephalexin-125 Suspension is
used
to
treat
infections
caused
by
susceptible
bacteria.
The
infections
that
can
be
treated
using
Axcel
Cephalexin-125 Suspension are:
•
Respiratory tract infections.
•
Ear, nose and throat infections.
•
Urinary tract infections.
•
Prophylaxis of recurrent urinary
tract infection.
•
Gynaecological
and
obstetric
infections.
•
Skin,
soft-tissue
and
bone
infections.
•
Gonorrhoea
venereal
disease
(when Penicillin is not suitable).
•
Dental procedures.
HOW
AXCEL
CEPHALEXIN-125
SUSPENSION WORKS
Axcel
Cephalexin
125
suspension
consists
of
active
substance
Cephalexin.
Cephalexin
is
an
antibiotic
that
belongs to the group of medicines
called
Cephalosporin.
These
medicines
work
by
killing
the
bacteria, which cause infections.
BEFORE YOU USE AXCEL CEPHALEXIN-
125 SUSPENSION
_-When you must not use it _
Do not take Axcel Cephalexin-125
Suspension if:
•
You
are
allergic
or
hypersensitive to cephalosporin.
Some
of
the
symptoms
of
allergic
reaction
may
include
skin rash, itchiness, shortness of
breath, swelling of the face, lips
or tongue.
•
It is not prescribed by a qualified
doctor or pharmacist for you.

Tell your doctor if:
•
You
are
allergic
to
any
medicines, food and dyes.
•
You
are
taking
any
other
medicines
(including
those
not
prescribed by your doctor).
•
You
have
had
an
allergic
reaction
to
penicillins.

Cephalexin Monohydrate
equivalent to Cephalexin 125 mg
PRESENTATION:
White
colored
granules
which
gives
a
beige
colored
suspension
with
fruity
flavor
when
reconstituted.
INDICATIONS:
Treatment of infections caused by susceptible
bacteria:
Respiratory tract infections: acute and chronic
bronchitis and infected bronchiectasis. Ear, nose
and throat infections; otitis media, mastoiditis,
sinusitis,
follicular
tonsillitis
and
pharyngitis.
Urinary
tract
infection;
acute
and
chronic
pyelonephritis, cystitis and prostatitis. Prophylaxis
of
recurrent
urinary
tract
infection.
Gynaecological and obstetric infections. Skin,
soft-tissue
and
bone
infections.
Gonorrhoea
(when
Penicillin
is
not
suitable).
Dental
procedures:
treatment
of
dental
infection. As
prophylaxis
treatment
for
patients
with
heart
disease
undergoing
dental
treatment
as
an
alternative to penicillin.
PHARMACOLOGY:
_Mechanism of Action:_
_In vitro_ tests demonstrate that cephalosporins are
bactericidal because of their inhibition of cell-wall
synthesis.
Cephalexin
is
active
against
the
following
organisms
_in _
_vitro_:
Beta-haemolytic
streptococci, Staphylococci (including coagulase
-positive, coagulase-negative and penicillinase-
producing strains), _ Streptococcus pneumoniae, _
_Escherichia _
_coli,_
_Proteus _
_mirabilis, _
_Klebsiella_
species, _ Haemophilus influenzae, Branhamella _
_catarrhalis. _
Most
strains
of
enterococci
(_Streptococcus faecalis_) and a few strains of
Staphylococci are resistant to cephalexin. It is not
active
against
most
strains
of
_Enterobacter_
species, _Morganella morganii_ and _Pr. vulgaris_. It
has no activity against _Pseudomonas_ or _Herellea _
_species_ or _Acinetobacter calcoaceticus_. Penicillin
- resistant _ Streptococcus_ _ pneumonia _ is usually
cross-resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics. When
tested by _in-vitro_ methods, Staphylococci exhibit
cross-resistance
between
cephalexin
and
methicillin-type antibiotics.
_Pharmacokinetics:_
Cephalexin
is
almost
completely
absorbed
from
