WHAT
PHARMANIAGA
ERYTHROMYCIN
SUSPENSION IS USED FOR
Pharmaniaga Erythromycin Suspension
is used for the treatment of:
- Respiratory tract infection.
- Ear and throat infections.
- Gastrointestinal infection.
- Syphilis (sexually transmitted disease).
- Prevention of whooping cough.
- Prevention of infection in the inner
lining of the heart (endocarditis).
HOW
PHARMANIAGA
ERYTHROMYCIN
SUSPENSION WORKS
This
medicine
contains
erythromycin
ethylsuccinate,
which
is
an
antibiotic
(macrolide group). It works by killing or
stopping the growth of bacteria, which
cause infections.
BEFORE
YOU
USE
PHARMANIAGA
ERYTHROMYCIN SUSPENSION
_-When you must not use it. _
Do not use Pharmaniaga Erythromycin
Suspension
:
•
If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to
erythromycin
or
to
other
antibiotics
from the macrolide group or any other
ingredients of this medicine (listed in
Product Description).
•
If
you
are
taking
astemizole,
terfenadine
(used
to
treat
allergic
conditions).
_Pregnancy and breastfeeding _
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are
pregnant, planning to get pregnant or are
breastfeeding.
Erythromycin is secreted into breast milk
and may affect your baby. Your doctor
will discuss the risks and benefits of
breastfeeding
while
you’re
taking
erythromycin.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you
have:

liver
problems
or
currently
taking
medications that may affect the liver
functions.

DESCRIPTION:
Granules for Suspension.
Before reconstitution:A fine granular powder, practically free from
visible
impurities.
After
reconstitution:Slightly
viscous
free
flowing,
homogeneous
suspension, practically free from visible impurities.
COMPOSITION:
Each
5ml
reconstituted
suspension
contains
Erythromycin
ethylsuccinate equivalent to Erythromycin 200 mg.
INDICATIONS:
Erythromycin is used in the treatment of infections due to susceptible
organisms; it is often used as an alternative to penicillin in
infections due
to
Gram-positive
cocci,
especially
Streptococci,
and
_Listeria _
_monocytogenes_. In penicillin sensitive patients it is given in place
of
penicillin in the prophylaxis of endocarditis and in the treatment of
syphilis. For the treatment of otitis media caused by _ Haemophilus _
_influenzae_
it
may
be
given
in
combination
with
sulphonamide.
Erythromycin may be given as an adjunct to antitoxin in the treatment
of
diphtheria or used alone to eradicate the carrier state. In the
prevention
of pertussis, it may be used in non- or partially immune patients. It
is
used in infections due to _ Mycoplasma pneumoniae_ and _ Chlamydia _
_trachomatis_ in Legionnaires’ disease, in enteritis due to
_Campylobacter_
spp., chancroid and similarly to tetracycline, in the treatment of
severe
acne vulgaris.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
In patients with known hypersensitivity to erythromycin. Concurrent
use
with astemizole or terfenadine with erythromycin is contraindicated.
The
concurrent use may increase the risk of cardiotoxicity, such as
_torsades _
_de pointes_ and ventricular tachycardia and death.
ACTIONS:
Erythromycin is a microlide antibacterial with a broad and essentially
bacteriostatic
action against many Gram-positive and to a lesser extent
some Gram-negative bacteria, as well as other organisms including
some
_Mycoplasma_
spp.,
Chlamydiaceae,
_Rickettsia_
spp.,
and
spirochaetes. The actions of erythromycin are increased at moderately
alkaline pH (up to about 8.5), particul
