WHAT GLUMET XR IS USED FOR
Glumet XR contains the active
substances metformin hydrochloride
which are used to treat diabetes by
regulating the level of sugar in the
blood.
Glumet
XR
is
prolonged-release
medicine. This means that the release
of
the
medication
is
spread
over
longer
period
of
time
than
an
immediate-release medicine.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you
need additional information.
HOW GLUMET XR WORKS
Glumet XR works by improving the
sensitivity of your body to insulin. It
helps your body to use glucose in the
normal way again.
BEFORE YOU TAKE GLUMET XR

_When you must not to take it _
Do not take Glumet XR if you are:
•
If you have severely reduced
kidney function.
•
If
you
have
lactic
acidosis
[too much lactic acid in the
blood
(see
"Risk
of
lactic
acidosis"
below)]
or
ketoacidosis. Ketoacidosis is
a
condition
in
which
substances
called
'ketone
bodies'
accumulate
in
the
blood and which can lead to
diabetic
pre-coma.
Symptoms
of
acidosis
may
include
stomach
pain,
abnormal
breathing
and
drowsiness (if severe).
•
If
you
are
allergic
(hypersensitivity)
to
metformin hydrochloride or
any of the other ingredients in
this medicine.
•
If
you
have
diabetic
ketoacidosis.
•
If you have kidney or liver
problems.
•
If you are dehydrated.
•
If you are suffering from a
severe infection.
•
If you are going to have a
certain type of X-ray with an
injectable dye.
•
If you have recently suffered
from heart failure.
•
If you have recently had a
heart attack, have circulatory
problems
or
breathing
difficulties.
•
If you are a heavy drinker.
•
If you are breast-feeding
